Founder and President,
Diane Legg, takes a look back, and
shares some background and thoughts
about the company's beginnings and
her personal convictions and beliefs
from which the firm's foundation
is built. She attributes D-M-L's
ongoing success to those ideals
and her dedication to family, candidates
and clients.
How I got started
. . .
Prior to starting my own company
on August 17, 1992, I worked for
several Houston-based search firms
over a period of five years. Though
I enjoyed the work and learned a
lot, working for others was not
the path I wanted to pursue. I received
a small inheritance from my grandmother’s
estate and decided the best investment
I could make would be in me, so
started my own recruiting firm.
Working on straight commission and
supporting two young children as
a single parent, had its challenges.
But I held firm to the belief I
was doing the right thing for me
and for my family .
It turned out to be one of the best
decisions I ever made.
What I’ve learned
along the way . . .
My mantra is, Know Thy Candidate
– Know Thy Client!
Time and commitment are what counts
the most. For me, the biggest lesson
of all is making a personal commitment,
both to those I represent (candidates)
and to those I recruit for (clients)
Without commitment, I would derive
no personal satisfaction in my daily
work. Being tuned-in to the individual,
gaining insights through in-depth
meetings, and conversations and
personal interaction, is the only
way to establish trust and develop
long term relationships. Taking
the time to do a good job is worth
the effort. Shortcuts usually end
up costing everyone involved in
the recruiting process. As a recruiter,
my job is to match talent with need,
insuring the personality and cultural
fit is every bit as solid as the
required skills.
Where I am
today . . . Beginning anew . . .
After dedicating
25 years in the recruiting industry,
I find myself constantly starting
over. With searches ending and others
beginning, I must constantly renew
and refresh what I do on a daily
basis. I am grateful to have a flourishing
business, with a diverse client
base. I have purposely remained
more of a technical generalist,
covering a broad spectrum of industries
within the upstream oil industry
sector. Working and representing
sales professionals has been enlightening
in terms of understanding the business
drivers and the power of persuasion.
Working and representing geotechnical
and engineering professionals has
educated me in the technologies
and processes involved in producing
scientific software or providing
geotechnical and engineering services.
My experiences in recruiting for
oil companies have given me an appreciation
of the highly sophisticated technologies
employed by the people who drive
the oil and gas finding engine,
those who are fueling our futures.
In closing, I
would like to say a sincere, “Thank
You“ to all of you who have helped
me along the way. I hope to continue
to make a positive impact with companies
seeking to hire the best talent
out there and candidates who are
seeking to make a strategic career
move, not just finding a job.

Best Regards,
